Skills Training offers specific training in many industries within our facility and out in the community.

The skills training will allow clients to:

  • Identify, train and work on specific skills
  • Work on employment enhancement
  • Build resumes and cover letters
  • Find references

Employment Enhancement

Employment Enhancement allows our clients to increase their skills and knowledge of computers in order to broaden their employment opportunities.

Employment Enhancement includes:

  • System operations
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Word processor
  • Spreadsheets
  • Internet proficiency
  • Online work search
  • Online applications
  • Resume and cover letter creations

  • Windows 7
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

  • Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor
  • Individual instruction

  • Self-paced tutorials

Career Passport

Seeks to surround the participants with success and support, and the knowledge that the passport must be earned through a careful assessment of current skills and development of new skills. Individuals earn certificates and credentials that are placed into a portfolio, that is then utilized with their job search.

What is it?

The Career Passport is a document certifying that you have met specific academic and workplace competencies important for employment. The portfolio will contain a variety of documents such as:

  • Letter from Dean of Instructional Delivery at Chippewa Valley Technical College, attesting to the accuracy of the documents
  • Resume – several copies will be included for distribution to prospective employers
  • Achievement Credentials from Chippewa Valley Technical College certifying competency in specific technical/job-related areas and computer skills
  • Certificates from Career Development Center certifying competency in employability and self-sufficiency skills
  • Letters of recommendation from past employers and/or instructors
  • Transcripts, certificates and diplomas

What’s in it for me?

Individuals who participate in the Career Passport will have a personalized documents highlighting and certifying skills for the workplace. Only the skills demonstrated will be certified. In addition, individuals will be matched with a mentor. The program will also help:

  • Increase self-awareness and self-esteem through self-evaluation
  • Increase awareness of the responsibility for one’s own career planning
  • Increase recognition of marketable skills
  • Understand the job-seeking process
  • Improve self-marketing to business and industry
  • Gain confidence in interviewing with employers
  • Increase chances for successful employment
